Stanford International Bank Sponsors Antigua and Barbuda National Cricket Team on UK Tour 2005

SIB provided a $50,000 major sponsorship package to the national cricket team of Antigua and Barbuda. SIB's sponsorship for the United Kingdom segment of the UK-Holland 6 August-10 September tour included air and ground travel, accommodations and team apparel for 16 cricketers and four officials. The official announcement of SIB's sponsorship was made 3 August at a press conference at The Sticky Wicket, which is also helping to outfit the team.

SIB President Juan Rodriguez-Tolentino, who presented a set of uniforms and gear at the media event, said, "Truly, our Bank and Stanford Private Wealth Management have a commitment to Antigua and Barbuda.

"We are elated to be sponsoring the national cricket team's historic tour to the United Kingdom because it showcases the talent of our players in the international arena. Cricket is extremely important in Antigua and Barbuda, and our cricketers have a very strong reputation worldwide. We want to support and build on that reputation by potentially fast-tracking some of our cricketers. At Stanford we believe in developing relationships that are built to last, and sponsorship of this tour underlies our commitment to developing the full potential of Antigua and Barbuda for the long-term."

Rodriguez-Tolentino was joined at the press conference by Project Manager of the Antiguan cricket tour to England Mark Bowers and Minister of Sports John Maginley, who were primarily responsible for negotiating and securing the Bank's sponsorship; and President of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association Enoch Lewis.

Maginley said, "The Ministry of Sports, the cricket association and the team are extremely grateful to Stanford International Bank and the Stanford companies for their generous support of a significant event in our nation's history. We fully expect their support of this tour to positively impact not only our players and the sport, but also the international visibility of Antigua and Barbuda."

The Antiguans played a number of matches against first-class teams from around England, visited the famous Lord's Test ground and the Brit Oval, and witnessed the current Ashes Test series between England and Australia. A first-class test match against the Bangladesh Test team in England was the highlight of the tour.
